Unlike their peers, scientific research suggests persons with a history of depression and/or trauma tend to interpret the negative events of their lives according to 3 “P” words:
•Permanent: The negative thing (or something like it) will keep happening in the future.
•Pervasive: The negative thing represents something globally wrong with the person; the bad thing “infects” other aspects of the person’s life.
•Personal: The negative thing only happened because of them; other people’s responsibility or contextual factors are ignored.
