Jon Ahern, Ph.D.
I specialize in helping adults overcome trauma, depression, anxiety and problems in relationships. I am EMDR certified and strive in all my work to help people feel safe, less alone and worthy of understanding and curiosity. I believe that when those conditions are met, people are more likely to develop insight, compassion (toward themselves and others) and a greater sense of agency over their lives. This leads to relief from their emotional pain, a sense of purpose and more satisfying relationships. I love being a part of that process.
It has always been very important for me to do whatever it takes to continually improve at the art of therapy and understanding people. My work as a psychologist has taken me to a lot of places. I started working toward a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh back in 2005. After that I relocated to San Antonio to complete an internship at the University of Texas Health Science Center and then to Houston to complete a fellowship at the Menninger Clinic, one of the top 5 psychiatric hospitals in the country.
After all that moving, I was happy to make my way back to Utah in 2012 and begin working at the Behavioral Health Institute at McKay-Dee Hospital where I stayed until launching South Davis Psych in 2016.
When I’m not doing that I look forward to time with my wife, wrestling with my kids and listening to good music.
