Karen Talbot, LCSW, CCTP
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over twenty years of experience as a psychotherapist. I specialize in helping children and youth, and their family overcome anxiety, depression, grief/loss, PTSD, relational problems, self-harming behaviors, and trauma.
I believe every person is unique with divine qualities and inner strengths. I believe you are the expert in your own lives. I work to assist people in improving their own lives.
I am certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional and a Compassion Fatigue Professional. I am trained in both TF-CBT and DBT. I use the TF-CBT model to assist children and youth to process their trauma through play therapy, art therapy, and narrative therapy. I use the DBT model to assist my clients in learning emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
I obtained my undergraduate degree in Social Work at Utah State University in 1991. I have worked in residential behavioral facilities with adolescent males and females. I have worked as a Department of Child Safety worker for the State of Utah working with Children at Risk and the Youth Protection Programs. I obtained my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Utah in 1999. I then moved to Casper, Wyoming, where I worked at Central Wyoming Counseling Center as psychotherapist working with children, youth, and their families in assigned elementary schools. In 2007, I moved to Yuma, AZ, where I worked at Child and Family Services of Yuma. I provided therapy to children, youth, and their family as well as provided supervision to other therapists. I am currently an Approved Clinical Supervisor through the Center for Credentialing & Education. I also assisted in running a support group for the Right Turn for Yuma Veterans program. For my own personal self-care, I enjoy going to the LDS temple, spending time with my family and friends, playing chess, painting, and taking pictures.
